Beard Transplant in Turkiye: Procedure, Costs and Results
A complete guide to beard transplants in Turkiye — who they suit, how FUE works, how many grafts you need, the procedure day, recovery and shedding, naturalness, and costs versus the UK and US.

A full, well-shaped beard has become one of the most requested looks in men's grooming — but not everyone can grow one. Patchy cheeks, a moustache that never quite connects to the chin, gaps left by scars, or simply genetics that never delivered much facial hair can all stand in the way. A beard transplant offers a permanent solution by moving your own hair into the beard area, and Turkiye has become one of the leading places in the world to have it done.
This guide covers what matters most: who it is for, how the procedure works, how many grafts different goals need, what the day itself is like, the recovery and shedding timeline, when the final result shows, how naturalness is achieved, what it costs in Turkiye compared with the UK and US, and how to care for your new beard.
Who Is a Beard Transplant For?
A beard transplant is for men who want more facial hair than they can grow naturally. It is versatile: the same technique can fill one weak area or build an entire beard from very little.
- Patchy or uneven growth: The most common reason. Many men grow hair everywhere except the cheeks, or have one strong side and one sparse side. A transplant evens out the density.
- Weak connections: Gaps where the moustache fails to meet the chin, or thin sideburns that do not link to the rest of the beard, can be filled for a continuous look.
- Scars and bald spots: Hair does not grow through scar tissue from acne, surgery or injury. Grafts can be placed into and around scars to camouflage them.
- Little or no growth: Some men simply never developed meaningful facial hair. A transplant can create a full beard where there was almost none.
- Shaping and restoring: Others want to thicken an existing beard, sharpen the cheek line, or rebuild density lost to ageing.
Good candidates are in general good health, have a healthy donor area at the back and sides of the scalp, and hold realistic expectations. As with any procedure, an honest consultation comes first.
How a Beard Transplant Works
A beard transplant uses the same core principle as a scalp procedure: healthy follicles are taken from a donor area and relocated to where they are wanted. The donor area is almost always the back and sides of the scalp, where hair is permanent and plentiful. These follicles keep their original characteristics, so once they settle into the face they grow like natural beard hair — and can be shaved, trimmed and styled like the rest of your beard.
The work is carried out with FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): individual follicular units are removed one by one with a tiny punch, leaving no linear scar. Many clinics use the DHI method to place them, implanting each follicle directly with a Choi pen. DHI gives the surgeon precise control over the angle, direction and depth of every hair — which matters enormously on the face, where beard hairs grow at sharp, low angles that differ across the cheeks, jaw, chin and moustache. Because facial hair is coarser than scalp hair, finer donor hairs are often chosen for the cheeks and soft edges.
How Many Grafts Do Different Goals Need?
The number of grafts depends on how much area you want to cover and how dense you want it. Your surgeon will give you a tailored figure, but these ranges show the scale:
- Filling small patches or gaps: 500–1,000 grafts for sparse cheeks, a single weak area or a thin connection.
- Strengthening the moustache and chin: 1,000–1,500 grafts to build density and link the two together.
- Sideburns and cheek lines: 600–1,200 grafts depending on length and the look you want.
- Full beard reconstruction: 2,500–4,000+ grafts for men with very little existing hair who want full coverage across cheeks, jaw, chin and moustache.
More grafts is not automatically better. A natural beard has a specific density and flow, and an experienced surgeon places exactly as many follicles as the design calls for — no more.
The Procedure Day
A beard transplant is a single-day outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic. You are awake and comfortable throughout, and most patients find it relaxed enough to listen to music or watch something between stages. From start to finish it usually takes four to seven hours, depending on the number of grafts.
First, the surgeon draws and agrees the beard design with you while you sit upright, so the shape, density and lines match your face. The donor area is trimmed and numbed, and follicles are extracted one by one. The face is then anaesthetised, tiny recipient sites are created at precise natural angles, and each follicle is implanted. Once placement is complete, you receive detailed aftercare instructions and return to your hotel the same day. There is no general anaesthetic and no overnight hospital stay.
Recovery, Shedding and the Final Result
Recovery is generally quick, but knowing the timeline in advance prevents unnecessary worry — especially the shedding phase, which surprises many first-time patients.
- Days 1–3: Tiny crusts form around each implanted hair, with mild redness and slight swelling. The donor area feels a little tender. Most discomfort is managed with simple painkillers.
- Days 5–10: The crusts gently flake away with careful washing as instructed, and redness fades. Many people feel comfortable in public again within a week.
- Weeks 2–4: The transplanted hairs fall out. This is completely normal — it is called shock loss or shedding. The follicles stay healthy under the skin; only the visible hair shaft is shed.
- Months 3–6: New growth begins, fine at first and gradually thickening, until you see a clear, encouraging change.
Most patients take just a couple of days off and avoid heavy exercise, swimming and direct sun for the first two weeks. Crucially, do not shave the new beard until your clinic confirms it is safe, usually around two weeks. The final result is normally reached between twelve and fifteen months, once every follicle has matured. At that point the hair is permanent: it grows continuously, so you trim and shape it like any beard, and because it is your own living hair it behaves exactly like the rest of your facial hair.
Naturalness and Design
The difference between a beard transplant that looks obviously done and one that is undetectable comes down almost entirely to design and surgical skill. The science of moving follicles is well established; the art lies in how they are placed.
A skilled surgeon studies the direction every beard hair should travel — and on the face these angles are steep and constantly changing, fanning differently across the cheeks, jaw and chin. Recipient sites are created to match that natural flow exactly. Single-hair units are used along the outer edges and cheek line for a soft, gradual border, with denser placement reserved for the core of the beard. The overall shape is planned to suit your face, features and age, rather than forcing an unnaturally sharp outline. Done well, the result is simply a beard that looks like it grew there on its own.
Costs in Turkiye vs the UK and US
Cost is one of the main reasons so many men travel to Turkiye for a beard transplant. The procedure is highly specialised, and in Western countries that expertise carries a steep price.
- United Kingdom: Typically around £5,000–£10,000 or more, often priced per graft.
- United States: Frequently in the region of $7,000–$15,000, again depending on the number of grafts.
- Turkiye: The same procedure, performed by experienced surgeons using the same FUE and DHI techniques, commonly costs around €2,000–€3,500 — often as an all-inclusive package.
The lower price is not a sign of lower quality. Turkiye performs an enormous volume of hair and beard transplants, and lower operating, staffing and living costs mean the same standard of work is far more affordable. Reputable clinics usually bundle the procedure with hotel accommodation, transfers, medication and aftercare products into one transparent price, so you know exactly what you are paying before you travel.
Aftercare for Your New Beard
Looking after the transplant properly in the first weeks protects your investment and gives the follicles the best chance to thrive. Your clinic will provide a detailed plan, but the essentials are consistent.
- Leave it alone at first: Do not touch, scratch or pick at the crusts. Let them flake away naturally during gentle washing.
- Wash exactly as instructed: Careful washing usually begins a couple of days after the procedure, using a mild product and a soft dabbing motion — never rubbing.
- Avoid sweat, sun and water: Skip the gym, swimming, saunas and direct sun for about two weeks to protect the healing grafts.
- Do not shave too soon: Wait for your clinic's go-ahead, typically around two weeks, before trimming or shaving.
- Be patient through shedding: Expect the new hairs to fall out within the first month. This is normal and temporary, not a failure.
- Live well: Avoid smoking and alcohol in the early days, stay hydrated and eat well to support healing.
